How we choose what goes on each list
The four questions behind every Melbourne Choice list: real expertise, satisfied customers, easy contact and a location that suits you.
Every Melbourne Choice list answers four questions you would ask before picking up the phone.
Do they know the job?
We look at what each business actually specialises in. A handyman who also does a bit of tiling is listed differently from a tiler, and a general clinic is not a women’s health specialist.
Would their customers go back?
Ratings are read together with the number of reviews behind them, so a perfect score from five people doesn’t outrank a strong one from several hundred. The written comments count too: reliability, clear pricing and good manners on the job.
Can you reach them easily?
A working phone number, a real address, current opening hours and a website matter. If we can’t confirm them, the business waits until we can.
Are they near you?
Melbourne is wide, so we note the suburb and, for mobile services, how far they travel. A brilliant choice in Werribee isn’t much help in Doncaster.
Kept up to date
We revisit lists so that closed businesses come off and newly deserving ones go on. If only a handful truly earn a place, the list stays short.
Before you commit
For building or renovation work, check the builder’s registration in Victoria and get the quote in writing; for heating, book the service before the first cold snap, not after it.
